Kurt's Biography

Kurt Keeney is an accomplished musician in the Fort Wayne area. He has played in numerous groups playing various styles including classical, jazz, reggae and rock. He started his music education on guitar but very shortly after that he joined the 6th grade band on trombone and left guitar. The next year, the school jazz band needed a bass player and who was better than a ex-guitar player that could read bass clef? The bass soon became his instrument of choice. He started playing rock in high school when a guitar player named Joseph Lisinicchia was desperately in need of a bass player and found out he could play. This was the start of Euphonious Funk, his first rock band. This band included Kurt on bass, Joe on guitar, Steven Bergdall on keyboards and Aaron Kiser on drums. A few years later Joe went to Indiana University. He got into the jazz scene there and the next summer The Joseph Lisinicchia Quartet was formed. This group included all the same musicians but was strictly jazz. The Joseph Lisinicchia Quartet was a more suitable name for jazz. He started to learn the upright bass to better fit the style of jazz. This group was highly successful for the short run it had. They played at Jefferson Pointe Mall and Eddie Merlot's Steak House just to name a couple.

Meanwhile, Kurt's dad, Kent Keeney, cold calls a musician he heard of named Larry Ford. It just so happened he needed a bass player for his next gig. This was a vibes, bass and drums group named The Larry Ford Trio. Larry was on Vibes and Brandon Ford was on drums. They liked his playing on the fist gig and called him back for more. Later Regalia was formed with Brandon on guitar, Kurt on bass, and various drummers. This group started out playing mostly reggae, rock and jazz. This group has evolved into mostly a rock band with Larry as the main drummer. Kurt started college in 2003 at Indiana University Purdue University of Fort Wayne studying classical guitar and recording technology. He has played many gigs on classical guitar as well as played in many ensembles at school. The most current band Kurt plays with is called Velvet Soul. The group consists of Voice (Kelley Baird), Guitar (Gary Baird), Bass (Kurt Keeney), and Drums (Joe Santos). Velvet Soul plays a wide variety of dance music.
